Africa has long stood as a paradox.

A continent rich in resources, culture, innovation, and human capital, yet too often celebrated and studied by the rest of the world before being fully appreciated by ourselves. For decades, Africa has been viewed through external lenses, spoken about more than spoken with.

That reality is changing.

A new generation of African leadership is emerging intentional, collaborative, and increasingly unwilling to allow the continent’s future to be defined from outside its borders or through chance. Across industries, African leaders are reclaiming ownership of the conversations that matter most.

The gaming and lotteries sector is no exception.

The CEOs Forum, a flagship platform of the African Lotteries and Gaming Association (ALGA), convened under the powerful theme of The Black Table, was born from this very conviction: that Africa needs a tangible platform where its leaders, regulators, operators, and innovators can come together to shape the future of the continent on African terms.

Last year, the inaugural CEOs Forum convened at the prestigious The Leonardo, in the beating heart of Sandton, bringing together influential voices from across Africa’s gaming and lotteries ecosystem. What unfolded was more than a conference, it was a strategic convergence of leadership, policy, innovation, and purpose.

This year, the Forum returns bigger, bolder, and more intentional.

Like dominoes, the conversations at the CEOs Forum are deeply interconnected. Regulation impacts innovation. Innovation influences market growth. Market growth affects player protection. Player protection shapes public trust. And public trust determines the long-term sustainability of the industry.

Nothing exists in isolation, and nor should any of the stakeholders.

This year’s discussions will continue to unpack the critical issues shaping Africa’s gaming future: digital transformation, illegal gambling, responsible participation, financial wellness, technological infrastructure, and the growing role of artificial intelligence.

At the centre of these discussions lies one undeniable force: Africa’s youth.

Africa remains the youngest continent in the world, and with that comes immense opportunity. Youth participation in the gaming and lotteries sector is already significant - whether as players, consumers, developers, engineers, creators, analysts, or entrepreneurs.

Too often, conversations about youth and gaming focus only on risk, yet, the African Lotteries and Gaming Association (ALGA) believes there is another side to that story.

If young people are already engaging with gaming ecosystems at scale, then the opportunity to transition them from participation to ownership becomes exponential. The same youth interacting with gaming platforms today could become tomorrow’s software developers, cybersecurity specialists, AI engineers, product designers, compliance leaders, and founders.

This is the revolution the CEOs Forum has recognised, and this is the revolution it seeks to safeguard.

As Mr. Moustapha Camara, Chairperson of the CEOs Forum Steering Committee, reflected on the role of the Forum and its Steering Committee:

“Ultimately, we are not here to slow down innovation, but to ensure it benefits everyone, the industry, our governments, and most importantly, the players. We are building a transparent, secure, and highly profitable digital environment that will serve as a global benchmark for emerging markets.”

His words capture the essence of what the CEOs Forum represents.

This year’s Forum boasts an even more expanded and intentional Forum, with increased delegate participation, a broader continental footprint, deeper cross-sector engagement, and the introduction of the CEOs Forum Showcase, designed to bring innovation, technology, and industry solutions to life.

As the sector continues to evolve, it becomes increasingly imperative that we recognise the value of every stakeholder within the gaming and lotteries ecosystem. The future of the industry cannot be shaped by regulators alone, nor by operators, technology providers, financial institutions, NGOs, NPOs, policymakers, or academia in isolation. Sustainable growth demands collective participation.

The African Lotteries and Gaming Association (ALGA), through the CEOs Forum, continues to advocate for exactly this kind of ecosystem-wide collaboration. At its core, the Forum recognises that meaningful progress happens when diverse perspectives are brought into one room and given equal weight in shaping the future.

This is the essence of The Black Table.

It is a table where Africa’s voices are not only heard, but uplifted. A table where collaboration moves beyond rhetoric and becomes action. A platform where difficult conversations can be approached with honesty, where innovation can be challenged with responsibility, and where opportunities can be unlocked through shared vision.

In bringing together stakeholders from across the continent and beyond, the CEOs Forum seeks to ensure that Africa’s gaming and lotteries future is built not through fragmentation, but through alignment, intentionality, and collective leadership.

If Africa were to draft a multilateral treaty for the gaming and lotteries sector, at its core would be a commitment to safeguarding the continent, protecting its people, and securing the future of African gaming through responsible regulation, innovation, collaboration, and shared prosperity.

This is precisely the spirit embodied by the CEOs Forum.

As we look ahead to this year’s Forum, we anticipate deeper insights, richer dialogue, and more transformative discussions unfolding around the opportunities and challenges shaping the sector. From regulation and technological advancement to youth inclusion and responsible growth, the conversations at the table will continue to influence the future trajectory of gaming and lotteries across Africa.
